This room overlooks our private
garden and Partney House, a listed
house built in 1612 and the only
house to escape the plague in
1666. A plaque on the east gable
bears the inscription “O
Lord, be thee my keeper. Mercie
and peace be in this place AD1616”.
At one time Partney House was
occupied by Peregrine Langton,
a friend of Dr Johnson and in
1764 Dr Johnson stayed in the
house.

This room overlooks the church,
St Nicholas, which was originally
built in the reign of Edward I
or II. It was restored and partly
rebuilt in 1862 and still has
its lofty 15th century tower.
The weather vane in the form of
a ship is in honour of St Nicholas,
the patron saint of seamen.

which is visible beyond the village
hall.
